BIOGRAPHY
I am a multidisciplinary artist. My practice spans painting (including wearable scarves), costume jewelry design, and writing. As a teenager, I read fashion magazines often, and I think fashion influences how I approach my style in my practice. I am drawn to eye-catching photography, and these images often form the inspiration for whatever I create.
I am particularly drawn to models from the nineties, any Yves Saint Laurent runway model from any era (boy, did he have taste), and I admire models from the sixties and seventies like Pat Cleveland and the first black supermodel Donyale Luna, who hailed from Detroit, Michigan.
Textiles are interwoven into my paintings, and I am increasingly falling in love with charcoal and oil pastel drawings! Through this platform, I desire to share my artistry. From my paintings to my jewelry and scarves, and my non-profit Imagine Inspire, art is something that is very integral to my life. My creative journey began over 30 years ago with jewelry.
Under the mentorship of Joan Hunter and Claire Bouchard Buchanan, I developed a love for materials, form, and craftsmanship. Years later, while studying metalsmithing in New York City, I discovered painting at the Brooklyn Museum that completely expanded my creative world.
I’ve been told you can see my Black roots in my paintings, but in my jewelry and scarves, I understand and interpret fashion and style through the eyes of a woman! I don’t take that compliment lightly. With my body of artwork, my vision for it is to achieve global appeal and universal appreciation.
This portfolio website is intended to showcase my range and artistic capabilities. We are wishing to offer both B2B & B2C to our clients, such as hotels, architects, interior designers, galleries, boutiques, etc., to license, lease, wholesale, exhibit, or purchase my work. Let’s build a partnership. We would love to work with you. You can find my contact information on the contact page, as well as Sandra Ferrier’s.
